On Wednesday, we got up and took the train to the Smithsonian's American History Museum on the Mall.
We saw Julia Child's kitchen, the transportation exhibit and the Lincoln exhibit.
You could spend the better part of a week in just that building.
For lunch we took the Metro up north of downtown to Ben's Chili Bowl, where the President and Vice-President popped in for lunch shortly after the inauguration. It is a very cool place--see the two short videos below.
After lunch, we walked down the block to see the African-American Civil Way Memorial.
Then we hopped back on the train across town to the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. There was an exhibit of Civil War officers which I liked.
And then we saw their President's gallery. They have one of two complete collections of presidential portraits in the world. The other one is in the White House.
We also saw a collection of portraits of famous performing artists, and another of athletes.
