D.C: The Final Day, Part 2

After seeing the Portrait Gallery, we had one more thing we wanted to see: Ford's Theater and the Petersen house, where President Lincoln was assassinated and died.

The Petersen house is the red brick townhouse to the left of the pink building--Petersen was a Washington MD, and he attended to Lincoln after he was shot.

We didn't want to go inside and see them--that would have meant a long wait in line, and we were beyond that. We just wanted to go see them from the outside.

So we took the train over a couple of stops, and walked to the site. It was an odd feeling being there, at least for me. I've read so many accounts of his death, to be in the actual spot was ind of eerie.

After that we went into a few tourist shops, and then found our happy hour spot for the evening across from Franklin Square.

When we got back to our hotel, we decided to walk over to see the Iwo Jima/Marine Memorial and a corner of Arlington National Cemetery. They were both also very moving. There was also a great view across the river to D.C.

The next day we got up early, checked out, and headed west on I-66 to Manassas.
