Mardi Gras, St. Pat's, and a Gumbo Pie

Last Saturday night we made a gumbo pie from a recipe in Lori's pot pie cookbook--I'm working on the dough for the crust here.

We also got out our Mardi Gras and St. Patrick's Day kitchen decorations and put them both up--they are barely more than a week apart this year, so we just put them up together.

As You Like It

Last Thursday we drove down to Navy Pier for the Chicago Shakespeare Theater's production of this comedy, circa 1599.

We ate at the Billy Goat Tavern on the pier, then walked over to the theater, which is my favorite theatrical space that I've ever been in.

Super Sunday

I picked Lori up at Midway at about 2:30 on Superbowl Sunday, and brought her home to our two-person basement party.

We had Buffalo wings, shrimp, veggies with dip, nuts, olives and pickles.

Oh and we had a few drinks, too. And we kept a dictionary handy for all the obscure terminology the FOX Sports guys always introduce.

It was our first time doing the Superbowl with just the two of us, and it was okay. We're apparently pretty good company.

Snow Day

Question: When is a snow day not really a snow day?

Answer: When you work harder at home than you would have if you had gone to work.

First we had a brunch (Lori had a bonus Bloody Mary) and then I went to work.

It took most of the day, and I even had a lot of help from neighbor Al and his snow blower.
