Wet Start

We got up early to leave for Drummond Island, and found we had a wet bedroom floor in the basement from a hard and relentless overnight rain. So we put plastic bags around the legs of the furniture, and then left hoping Harley wouldn't drown while we were gone.

We took the Ike heading east, but around California, we were routed off due to a flooded underpass.

So we went south and took Roosevelt east, but we came to another flooded underpass.

So we drove down to Cermak and headed east again, once again coming to a flooded underpass.

So we went back north to Roosevelt and managed to get over to State Street, which we took south to 35th. At 35th we were able to get on the Dan Ryan and finally get out of town.

On the way up, we stopped at a Dutch Farm Market for some produce, and a Dutchman was on the porch making wooden clogs.

When we got to the bridge, it was shrouded in rain and fog, but by the time we got to the U.P., the weather began clearing.

We just missed the 5:40 ferry, so we waited for the 6:40--luckily, we had a couple of cold beers in the travel cooler!
