Opening Day 2011

We took Lori's friend from work Nadine with us this year, and she was a hoot.

The day was cold and foggy, but the rain stayed away. We bundled up--long johns, lined pants, wool socks, warm hats, gloves, neck warmers, blanket, etc.--and set off for the park on the Green line.

Opening festivities were fun as usual, but the fog kept the naval flyby jets grounded this year.

The Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 for a good start to the home season. They haven't look so good lately.

Glenn and Marlis, Back in Town

The Broadheads came back to Chicago in early April to clean out Glenn's office on campus.

They came in on Sunday, and that night we went out to hear the Chicago Grandstand Big Band at Fitzgerald's. The band played two of Glenn's original songs plus one of his arrangements.

Home again, home again

Saturday we drove to Warrensburg for dinner with the folks, stopping for lunch at a place called Hero's--Marlis is reading the story of Ol' Drum the Dog--he of "Man's Best Friend" fame.

Glenn entertained us for awhile on piano, and Euchre was played.

Sunday Lori and I went with Dad and Mom to church in Lexington, then Monday we drove home through Hannibal, stopping to take pictures at the house Dad grew up in.

We also went downtown to see the Mark Twain boyhood home.

Friday, Part 2 and Saturday a.m.

Friday evening Glenn and Marlis took us to happy hour at a Tapas bar. Great food, good beer and wine, and even dessert.

Later that evening Lori got to know Annie better, and then she and Marlis sat outside for a while before we all turned in.

Saturday morning Glenn made us a big breakfast, then we went over to see Emily and Kevin's house (no pix there--may bad), before heading east for Warrensburg.

Friday, Part 1

We had lunch at a little hole-in-the-wall Iranian Restaurant near the Broadheads' home, then took the dogs to a leash-free park and turned them loose for 20 minutes.

Goin' to Kansas City...

Time to update--sorry it's taken so long. We've been really busy since we got back.

We got to KC Thursday afternoon in mid-March, and soon most of the Broadhead family had also arrived.

Emily and Kevin, Linda and Vince, BJ and Steve--what a fun group!

Glenn and Marlis made a wonderful Mexican soup and some beans and tortillas--delicious and dangerous.

We also did a little St. Pat's celebrating, as it was March 17th. And it was the day after Glenn's birthday, so we did a little toasting to him, too.

Last Week

We went into the city to see Million Dollar Quartet last Thursday--stopped in to eat at a pub on Lincoln, just across the street from the movie theater where Dillinger was gunned down by police.

Last weekend we went out to Ikea and picked up some shelving units for Lori's closet, and bought a new little table for the hallway--Bonnie's great idea for a little added bathroom storage.

Just yesterday I finished up remaking Lori's closet.

Thursday we're off to Kansas City and Warrensburg for a few days.
